Braskem and Nexus Circular Sign Contract for Circular Plastic Feedstocks from New Advanced Recycling Facility
Nexus Circular and Braskem, the largest polyolefins producer in the Americas, announced on the 23rd of January that they have inked a 10-year definitive commercial contract for the supply of circular plastic feedstocks from a new, advanced recycling facility.
The agreed upon volumes of advanced recycled circular products from Nexus will contribute to Braskem’s aim to have sold 300 thousand metric tons of products with recycled content by the year 2025 and 1 million metric tons by 2030. Mark Nikolich, CEO of Braskem America, commented: “We look forward to a long and growing partnership with Nexus to secure high-quality feedstock for the production of Braskem’s certified circular PP resins. This supports our corporate initiative to develop a carbon neutral circular economy for plastics while supporting our clients’ goals for plastics with recycled content.”
Adding to their current, extensive portfolio of sustainable PP and PE, which includes nine Post-Consumer Recycled (PCR) products and two PCR PP grades, this project will offer the capacity to use their range of PCR solutions in a variety of PP and PE applications such as, but not limited to, consumer packaging, caps and closures, durable goods, automotive, and consumer housewares - in accordance with the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) food contact applications where PP is typically used.
Having consistently supplied commercial volumes of ISCC Plus-certified circular liquid products since 2018 and having rescued over 8 million pounds of used plastics from landfill, Nexus Circular is a distinguished commercial leader in advanced recycling and their patented process has the capacity to turn landfill-bound films and other tough-to-recycle plastics into premium quality feedstocks.
Expressing enthusiasm for their deepening relationship, Jodie Morgan, CEO at Nexus, concluded:
“This long-term commercial contract builds upon the strong foundation of our growing relationship. We are excited to partner with Braskem to accelerate our impact and ability to address the complex challenges of plastics accumulation in the environment.”
