OWS is one of the world’s leading experts in biodegradability, compostability and ecotoxicity testing of different types of materials, including bioplastics. The Belgium-based company, with 100+ employees and various laboratories, tested the very first bioplastics in 1990. Since then, OWS tested over 10,000 samples for more than 1,250 customers worldwide. Today, OWS has 2,500+ test reactors at its disposal covering testing on industrial compostability, home compostability, biodegradation in soil, fresh water, marine, landfilling, etc.

In parallel, OWS also participates intensively in a number of standardization organizations, both at national (ASTM) and international (CEN and ISO) level, leading to the co-development of several test methods and standard specifications on biodegradability and compostability.
